engine

In 2006, I spent three months in Wisconsin at the Kohler Arts/Industry residency, making full size V8 ceramic car engines. Each piece was a combination of ten different cast ceramic pieces, glued and bolted together. They were painted with safety red automotive paint and hung from chains. Some of the factory workers, when they heard what I wanted to do, doubted whether it could be done…

Every so often in an artist’s career a project, such as this residency, will give you a bump up and nothing is ever the same again. These engines did that for me.
